Key Responsibilities:

Organize and categorize donated food by type, expiration date, and condition to ensure quality and safety. Inspect food donations for damage or expiration, discarding any unsuitable items. Assist in preparing food packages or boxes for distribution to local partner organizations. Maintain an organized, clean, and safe sorting area according to food safety standards. Track inventory and report any shortages or discrepancies to the Volunteer Coordinator. Collaborate with other volunteers and staff to ensure an efficient and effective sorting process. Participate in special food sorting or packing events as needed.

Qualifications:

Ability to lift and carry boxes (up to 25 lbs). Strong attention to detail and ability to follow food safety protocols. Positive, team-oriented attitude with a willingness to help others. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Volunteer: Mobile Outpost Food Center- Diamond Lake Resort

The Outpost is a traveling food pantry that brings support to remote and rural communities in need. This program is operated by UCAN Food Bank. Our trailer is equipped with a freezer and cooler, and is stocked with shelf-stable items organized on metal racks. We are always looking for volunteers to help load the trailer or accompany us as we serve these outlying areas.


Volunteer Positions:

1. Pantry Stocker: Help fill the pantry with delicious food.

2. Shopping Assistant: Assist in setting up on-site and help clients in making their shopping selections.

3. Food Demonstrator: Share your love of cooking by showcasing items available in the pantry.


Volunteer Availability: This application is for individuals interested in providing customer service and assisting clients who are “shopping” at the mobile pantry. Please choose the pantry shift that fits your availability. Generally, each pantry is open for two hours, but shifts last three hours to allow for setup and teardown.


We are looking for volunteers to:

- Welcome clients to the pantry

- Provide clients with the necessary paperwork

- Help sanitize equipment such as pens, clipboards, and shopping cart handles

- Unload groceries into clients' cars as needed

- Set up and tear down the pantry as needed. 


This mobile food pantry serves rural communities in Douglas County that do not have their own food pantry.
